Nascì ddò, in the Gioia del Colle dialect:
The wine's name tells its origin: Primitivo was born in this vineyard and, after more than a century, has returned to the land that gave rise to it.
In the late 18th century the Primicerio of Gioia del Colle, the canon Don Francesco Filippo Indellicati, noticed that among the vines grown haphazardly there was one that ripened before the others. He selected it and called it primativo.
The one best suited to the red soils, giving an early, abundant and excellent crop.
With its cuttings he planted eight vineyard plots here, in contrada Liponti: the first documented Primitivo vineyard. Since 2004 a stone stele has marked the spot.
